Job summary

Rolls‑Royce SMR is seeking a Lead Control & Instrumentation Engineer to shape the design and development lifecycle of C&I systems for the SMR nuclear power plant. You will drive architecture, specification, and verification while collaborating with process, mechanical and systems teams to meet safety and regulatory objectives.

The role requires deep knowledge of C&I systems, strong cross-functional leadership, and a commitment to robust, compliant design across international standards.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in the nuclear/regulated environments across design and implementation lifecycle of C&I systems.
• Experience with systems engineering and requirements management across multi-discipline projects.
• Familiarity with IEC 61513, IEC 61226, IEC 61508 or equivalent safety standards.
• Experience in analogue electronics or FPGA development.
• Ability to coordinate across disciplines to meet system performance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Translate high-level requirements into C&I system specifications.
• Collaborate with C&I Architects to define implementation requirements.
• Liaise across engineering disciplines to integrate functionality and performance.
• Ensure C&I designs meet technical and regulatory requirements.
• Produce verification and validation plans and test programmes.
• Support lifecycle policies for C&I system development.
• Assist procurement, operations and maintenance considerations for C&I equipment.
• Contribute to safety case development and regulatory engagement.
• Act as responsible designer or intelligent customer for tasks.
• Deliver work programmes and oversee contract partners.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers.
