Job summary

Aldwych Consulting in Bristol is seeking an experienced Senior Building Surveyor to join its growing team. You will work across public and private sector projects, delivering professional Building Surveying services from feasibility through to delivery.

You should hold a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying (MRICS preferred) with strong technical knowledge, client relationship skills and a track record of managing multiple projects and mentoring junior colleagues.

Qualifications

• BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying or equivalent.
• MRICS status with PQE is advantageous.
• Strong technical knowledge across varied projects.
• Experience managing client relationships.
• Good commercial awareness and BD experience.
• Experience mentoring junior colleagues.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Strong report writing and documentation.
• Knowledge of health & safety and compliance.
• Experience with dilapidations, Party Wall or fire risk is advantageous.
• Proficient IT skills: Word, Excel, AutoCAD, NBS; Revit beneficial.
• Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Deliver refurbishment, improvement and modernisation projects across multiple sectors.
• Carry out building surveys, inspections and condition assessments.
• Prepare specifications, drawings, feasibility studies, client requirements and reports.
• Obtain estimates and support statutory approvals.
• Administer contracts using JCT and NEC.
• Manage regional projects and provide professional Building Surveying advice to clients.
• Support senior management with day-to-day project and team activities.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
• Mentor and develop junior Building Surveyors, including APC candidates.
• Line manage and develop junior team members.
• Support bids and tenders.
• Maintain high standards across quality, health & safety and environmental requirements.
• Potentially work toward NEC Supervisor qualification.

Senior Building Surveyor

A leading multidisciplinary construction consultancy organisation is continuing to grow its Bristol Building Surveying team and is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Building Surveyor.

This is a varied role offering exposure to a broad range of public and private sector projects, working alongside wider business teams. They are looking for someone who combines strong technical Building Surveying knowledge with commercial awareness, excellent client skills and a genuine interest in developing others.

For a Chartered Building Surveyor looking for greater responsibility, varied projects and clear long-term progression, this could be an excellent opportunity.

What's involved?

You'll work across a diverse project portfolio, providing professional Building Surveying services from initial feasibility through to project delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering refurbishment, improvement and modernisation projects across multiple sectors.
• Carrying out building surveys, inspections and condition assessments.
• Preparing specifications, drawings, feasibility studies, client requirements and technical reports.
• Obtaining estimates and supporting statutory approval processes.
• Administering contracts using recognised forms including JCT and NEC.
• Managing regional projects and providing professional Building Surveying advice to clients.
• Supporting senior management with day-to-day project and team activities.
• Developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
• Mentoring and supporting junior Building Surveyors, including those working towards their RICS APC.
• Line managing and developing junior members of the Building Surveying team.
• Supporting business development activity, including preparing and contributing to bids and tenders.
• Maintaining high standards across quality, health & safety and environmental requirements.
• Potentially working towards an NEC Supervisor qualification, if not already qualified.

What are they looking for?

They're keen to speak with experienced Building Surveyors who can demonstrate:

• A BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying or another relevant RICS-accredited degree.
• Ideally MRICS status, with relevant post-qualification experience as a bonus.
• Strong technical Building Surveying knowledge and a solid track record across a range of projects.
• Experience managing client relationships and delivering a high-quality professional service.
• Good commercial awareness, including an understanding of profitability and business development.
• Experience mentoring, coaching or developing junior colleagues.
• The ability to manage multiple projects, workloads and deadlines effectively.
• Strong technical report writing and documentation skills.
• A good understanding of Health & Safety and statutory compliance.
• Experience in specialist areas such as dilapidations, Party Wall, fire risk or access assessments would be advantageous.
• Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience using AutoCAD and NBS; Revit experience would be an advantage.
• A willingness to travel when required.
