Senior Building Safety Consultant
Remote Working - London

Our client, a Building Safety Consultancy, provides expert advice on the Building Safety Act 2022 and The Construction Design & Management Regulations 2015.

They assist their clients in navigating the regulatory landscape associated with safety compliance in the built environment, acting as a Principal Designer under the CDM and BSA, conducting compliance reviews, and offering tailored training programs. Their team is composed of professional Building Control Officers and H&S experts.

The Role
Liaise with their professional team to provide clients with comprehensive advice on building safety and the Building Safety Act.

The position demands an acute understanding of building regulations and associated safety legislation. You will be responsible for advising clients on higher-risk buildings (HRBs) and performing the principal designer role under The Building Safety Act/Building Regulations across various projects. Candidates must have at least 5 years of experience in building control.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Building Regulations Expertise: Provide clients with expert advice on the requirements and implications of the building regulations.
2. Building Safety Act Guidance: Offer informed advice on the Building Safety Act 2022, ensuring client compliance.
3. Principal Designer Role: Confidently assume the principal designer role under building regulations, which may include HRBs.
4. Design Risk Management: Conduct thorough risk assessments for potential hazards, including fire and structural failures, and develop effective mitigation strategies.
5. Review and assess proposed building plans.
6. Prepare reports and correspondence.
7. Provide professional advice on-site to builders, developers, and designers on various building projects.
8. Conduct inspections of building works to ensure compliance with building regulations.

Qualifications:

1. Degree in Building Surveying, Building Control, or a closely related discipline.
2. Professional qualification at Member level with CABE, RICS, or a similar organisation.
3. Experience in Building Control.
4. Competent Building Control Surveyor / RBI (up to Class 2F with the progression to develop up to Class 3 registered building inspector or in the process of registering with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) - (Desirable with support to enhance/provide).
5. Proven experience in construction projects.

Knowledge:

1. Legislation Expertise: In-depth knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations, Fire Safety Act and related legal frameworks.
2. Structural Design Acumen: Proficiency in assessing structural risks, identifying hazards, and understanding design principles.
3. Fire Safety Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of fire behaviour and its integration into building design.
4. Construction and Sustainability: Familiarity with modern construction techniques, sustainability practices, and material testing for both new and existing structures.
