Job summary

Maldon District Council, in partnership with Essex Shared Services, is seeking an experienced Principal Building Control Surveyor to lead complex applications, inspections, and enforcement matters from Maldon. The role combines office-based duties with site visits and a flexible hybrid working pattern.

You will mentor junior surveyors, provide expert advice to officers and Members, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous service improvement while maintaining high professional

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Building Surveying, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management.
• Current RBI registration with Building Safety Regulator to perform England work.
• Chartered or accredited membership with RICS, CIOB, or CABE.
• Demonstrated CPD to maintain up-to-date regulations and practices.
• Extensive experience in building control: inspections, enforcement, applications, appeals.
• Experience leading teams and deputising for Manager when required.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex building control applications, inspections, enforcement, and appeals.
• Provide expert advice to the Council, senior officers and Members.
• Oversee enquiries and casework; maintain accurate records and data.
• Mentor and develop junior surveyors; promote professional excellence.
• Lead policy reviews and drive service improvements and customer focus.
