Job summary

Burnley Borough Council is seeking a Senior Building Control Surveyor to lead a defined area in Burnley and Padiham. You will handle the full range of Building Control duties, including dangerous structures and enforcement under Building Act sections 77/78.

The role requires RBI level 2a-2f, strong Building Regulations knowledge, construction industry experience, and the ability to mentor Trainee RBI while coordinating with colleagues. Excellent communication and records management are essential.

Qualifications

• Essential RBI level 2a-2f and thorough knowledge of Building Regulations and legislation.
• Experience in the construction industry and ability to demonstrate full Building Control duties.
• Capable of presenting the Building Control Service to customers and maintaining records.
• Willing to train and supervise Trainee RBI alongside Senior Surveyor and Inspector.

Job description

An opportunity has arisen to join Burnley Council’s Building Control Service as a Senior Building Control Surveyor. You will carry out an important function within the Council’s well established Building Control Team running a defined area within the Borough of Burnley and Padiham. You will be expected to be capable of dealing with the full range of projects within class 2a-2f, dangerous buildings under section 77, 78 of the Building Act and associated enforcement activities. You should also be willing and able to assist with the training and supervision of our Trainee RBI in conjunction with our other Senior Surveyor and the Class 3G-H Registered Building Inspector.

An effective team of Registered Building Inspectors is the foundation of delivering a quality Building Control Service for residents and business in the Town.

It is essential you have RBI level 2a-2f and have a thorough knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation. It is also essential you have experience of working within the construction industry and you must be able to demonstrate the full range of duties expected of a Building Control Officer.

You must have excellent communication skills together with the ability to present the Building Control Service to customers. You must also be able to keep accurate and meaningful records of the work undertaken.
