Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to lead BMS commissioning across multiple projects in the UK.

You will act as the technical expert, coordinating with project teams, customers, subcontractors, and service operations to ensure delivery, safety, and energy efficiency objectives. You will review designs, mentor engineers, develop and commission BMS software, and lead FAT/SAT testing while maintaining thorough documentation and client liaison.

Qualifications

NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
8+ years of BMS commissioning experience on large projects.
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and controls.
Advanced experience developing, modifying, and commissioning BMS software and control systems.
Understanding of BMS architectures, networks, and protocols (BACnet, Modbus, MSTP/IP).
Experience leading commissioning activities on large-scale construction or refurbishment projects (£500k–£5M).
ECS/CSCS certification and strong health and safety understanding.
Experience with motor control systems, VSDs, energy management, and optimisation.
Strong communication and stakeholder management.
Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage commissioning on complex BMS projects from design to handover.
Review specs and drawings to identify design, software, or commissioning issues.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to commissioning engineers and junior team members.
Develop, modify and commission BMS software per project requirements.
Coordinate commissioning with M&E contractors, project managers, end users, consultants, and other stakeholders.
Lead FAT, SAT, and client witness testing.
Validate system performance and resolve complex issues with internal teams and subcontractors.
Produce commissioning documents, handover packs, test records, and technical reports.
Configure and commission controllers, field devices, networks, supervision systems, graphics, and energy-management solutions.
Ensure safety compliance and maintain documentation.
Participate in customer meetings as technical representative.
Identify risks, opportunities, and programme impacts.
Maintain as-built information to a high standard.
