Job summary

York Hospital is seeking a Senior Biomedical Scientist with a strong focus on quality and patient safety to lead the specimen reception and cut-up section of the Cellular Pathology laboratory.

The post requires extensive technical and theoretical knowledge in Cellular Pathology, with leadership to manage change and drive service improvements in a UKAS-accredited setting. Interviews will be conducted in person at the hospital site.

Qualifications

• Manage a team in the specimen reception and cut-up section of the Cellular Pathology laboratory.
• Perform audits relevant to the specialist area.
• Plan staff rosters and manage staffing levels.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and service users across the Trust and partners.
• Report adverse incidents via the DATIX system and contribute to CAPAs.
• Develop and review documentation to meet UKAS ISO:15189 2022 standards.
• Lead in the development of new methods and implementation of new technologies.
• Oversee ordering and stock management of supplies and consumables.
• Conduct team appraisals and provide constructive feedback.
• Lead validation and verification of new equipment and procedures.
• Support departmental inspections, assessments and accreditation activities.
• Deputise for the Chief BMS as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the specimen reception and cut-up team to maintain efficient processing.
• Coordinate audits and contribute to quality improvement.
• Develop and maintain staffing rosters to meet service demand.
• Communicate complex information to colleagues and external service users.
• Lead in reporting incidents and driving CAPA actions.
• Ensure documentation complies with ISO 15189 standards.
