Job summary

Illumina is seeking Senior & Staff Bioinformatics Scientists to join teams pivotal to the DRAGEN platform and Illumina Connected Analytics. Roles span UK/Europe and South Africa, with hybrid or remote options, driving scalable genomic analyses and production-grade software for clinically impactful insights.

Ideal candidates hold an advanced degree and have deep experience with secondary analysis workflows, large genomic datasets, and multi-omics contexts. Competitive package in the UK.

Qualifications

• Strong experience developing bioinformatics methods and algorithms for next-generation sequencing data
• Expertise in secondary analysis workflows including mapping, alignment, variant calling, and genomic interpretation
• Proficiency in high-performance programming languages such as C/C++
• Experience working with large-scale genomic datasets and production software environments
• Knowledge of applications such as cancer genomics, rare disease analysis, population genetics, transcriptomics, or multi-omics research

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement computational and statistical methods for genomic data analysis
• Build high-performance production software delivering speed, scalability, and accuracy
• Analyze and interpret sequencing datasets to support product and workflow development
• Partner with software, FPGA, quality, clinical genomics, and product teams to deliver integrated solutions
• Advance the DRAGEN platform across germline, somatic, DNA, RNA, and CNV sequencing applications
• Engage with customers, researchers, and collaborators to understand needs
• Present findings to specialist and non-specialist audiences
• Contribute to publications, presentations, and technical documentation
• Evaluate and apply emerging technologies to improve performance and outcomes
• Foster collaboration, accountability, and innovation within teams
