Job summary

Senior Bid Writer role in Hertfordshire seeks an experienced professional to craft persuasive bids for PQQs, tenders and proposals. You will support business development with research, pipeline tracking, and event management within a proactive pre-construction team.

The candidate will coordinate with site visits, develop cohesive win themes, and maintain standardised documentation. Strong MS Project knowledge and a degree are preferred for the position in this contractor environment.

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years experience as Bid Writer for a Main Contractor, Sub-Contractor, or Consultancy.
• Good knowledge of construction management processes and techniques.

Responsibilities

• Write persuasive, high-quality responses for PQQs, tenders, and proposals.
• Assist business development with scheme research, pipeline tracking, and event management.
• Facilitate workshops to develop winning strategies and align win themes across submission documents.
• Share best practices to improve submission standards.
• Consult with project team to capture inputs and prepare bespoke CVs and profiles.
• Attend site visits to inform bid strategy.
• Review and edit team contributions for consistency and clarity.
• Manage milestones to ensure documents are ready for external review.
• Prepare teams for mid-tender interviews and post-tender presentations.
• Incorporate feedback into final documentation.
• Ensure submissions meet mandatory requirements and timeframes.
• Maintain a database of model answers and case studies.

A highly successful Main Contractor with an excellent reputation delivering projects across the Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Leisure, and Residential sectors are looking for a compelling and effective Senior Bid Writer to join their Pre-Construction team in Hertfordshire. Backed by a robust, well-secured order book, our client continues to target high-value new business and is expanding their pre-construction capacity to support ongoing growth.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Write persuasive, high-quality responses for PQQs, tenders, and proposals.
• Assist business development with scheme research, pipeline tracking, and event management.
• Facilitate workshops to develop winning strategies and establish and align cohesive win themes across all submission documents.
• Share best practices and innovative ideas to improve submission standards.
• Consult with the wider project team to capture and develop technical inputs and to prepare bespoke CVs and project profiles.
• Attend site visits to inform the technical delivery and bid strategy.
• Review and edit team contributions for consistency, style, and logic.
• Manage internal milestones to ensure documents are ready for external review.
• Prepare teams for mid-tender interviews and post-tender presentations.
• Incorporate feedback and refinements into final documentation.
• Ensure all submissions satisfy mandatory requirements and timeframes.
• Maintain a database of model answers, case studies, and feedback.

Desirable Experience

• 5-7 years+ experience as Bid Writer for a Main Contractor, Sub-Contractor, or Consultancy.
• Good knowledge of construction management processes and techniques.
• Previous roles include Bid Writer, Assistant Bid Manager, Senior Bid Writer, Bid Coordinator, or Senior Bid Coordinator.
