Job summary

University of Oxford, Department of Engineering Science, is seeking a full-time Senior Researcher to join the Bayesian Governance Lab in central Oxford. The post is fixed-term for two years and focuses on Bayesian methods for evaluating and monitoring AI systems, leading open-source software, and translating results into policy outputs.

You should hold a PhD/DPhil in machine learning, statistics or a closely related discipline, with post-qualification research experience and a strong publication

Qualifications

• PhD/DPhil in machine learning, statistics or a closely related discipline with post-qualification research experience and strong publication record.
• Specialist knowledge of Bayesian machine learning or applied probability (e.g., Gaussian processes, sequential inference or Bayesian optimisation).
• Familiarity with the evaluation or governance of AI systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead a strand of research on Bayesian methods for the evaluation and monitoring of AI systems.
• Publish findings and lead the lab’s open-source software.
• Translate results into policy-facing outputs and guide research assistants and students.
