Job summary

University of Oxford in central Oxford invites applications for a full-time Senior Researcher to advance Bayesian methods for evaluating and monitoring AI systems. You will lead a strand of probabilistic machine learning research within the Bayesian Governance Lab and guide research assistants and students.

The role requires a PhD in ML or statistics with strong publication record and expertise in Bayesian ML, Gaussian processes, sequential inference or Bayesian optimisation.

Qualifications

• PhD/DPhil in machine learning or statistics or related field with post-qualification research experience.
• Strong publication record and specialist knowledge of Bayesian machine learning or applied probability (Gaussian processes, sequential inference, Bayesian optimisation).
• Familiarity with evaluation or governance of AI systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead a strand of Bayesian methods for evaluation and monitoring of AI systems.
• Publish research findings in top venues and lead the lab's open-source software.
• Translate results into policy-facing outputs and guidance.
• Supervise research assistants and students.
