Job summary

Spotify is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build and operate Java services powering conversion, retention and upsell journeys. The role involves collaborating with R&D, Marketing and Growth to design scalable backend systems on Google Cloud, and mentoring a cross-functional squad.

Based in London or Stockholm with flexible, hybrid work options. You will work with Java, gRPC, GCP, BigQuery and Bigtable to deliver end-to-end, production-ready solutions that support Spotify’s evolving product

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer with Java.
• Experience designing, implementing and scaling cloud-native backend services.
• Ability to design scalable data models and APIs for production use.
• Experience with cloud providers (GCP, AWS) and ML/data driven features is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop and operate Java services that support conversion and upsell journeys.
• Collaborate with squads and internal partners to design scalable backend systems on GCP.
• Mentor teammates and contribute as a technical leader in an autonomous agile squad.
• Work with stakeholders to identify problems and deliver scalable platform capabilities.
