Job summary

Kaluza is hiring a Backend Engineer in the UK. Role can be based in London, Bristol, or Edinburgh with hybrid working. You will join a large team developing a TypeScript-based backend and data-driven platform, leveraging AWS and serverless tech at scale.

You will collaborate across product and engineering teams, own services end-to-end, and mentor others while delivering real-time, customer-focused features.

Qualifications

• Solid experience developing backend applications, ideally in TypeScript or willing to learn quickly.
• Understanding of event-driven systems and queues.
• Strong cloud experience (AWS) and serverless technologies.
• Experience with database design, SQL/NoSQL.
• Passion for high-quality software and solving customer problems.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, willing to mentor.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Work with event-driven systems and message queues to power real-time features.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to build customer-focused solutions.
• Lead by example, mentoring others and fostering best practices.
• Own services end-to-end, from architecture to production monitoring and improvement.
• Optimize system performance and data design with SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Leverage AWS and serverless architectures for scalable solutions.
• Contribute to a positive engineering culture by sharing knowledge.
