Job summary

Kaluza is seeking a Backend Engineer to join our Engineering team in a hybrid UK role (London, Bristol, or Edinburgh). You will design, build and scale backend services using TypeScript, Node.js and event-driven architectures on AWS, collaborating with product and design to deliver high-quality, customer-focused solutions.

Qualifications

• Proven backend experience, ideally in TypeScript or a willingness to learn quickly.
• Strong knowledge of event-driven systems and message queues.
• Extensive experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and databases (SQL/NoSQL).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Work with event-driven systems to power real-time features.
• Collaborate with product, design and other engineers to deliver customer-focused solutions.
• Lead by example, write high-quality code, and mentor others.
• Own services end-to-end from architecture to production monitoring.
• Optimize performance and data design across SQL/NoSQL databases; use AWS and serverless where appropriate.
