Job summary

iwoca is looking for a Senior Back-End Engineer to own the ledger platform, responsible for scalable systems, reconciliation, and reporting across lending products. You will design, implement, and operate services in production with a strong emphasis on correctness and reliability.

The role combines hands-on coding with architecture, working in a hybrid setup in London or remote within the UK, and collaborating closely with Product and Finance teams to deliver high-impact financial capabilities.

Qualifications

• Extensive back-end engineering experience.
• Experience building and running microservices and distributed systems in production.
• Relational databases experience, preferably PostgreSQL.
• Experience with ledgers, accounting, billing or payments in regulated settings.
• Experience leading a feature or project end-to-end.
• Proficiency using AI tools to accelerate boilerplate and research.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement scalable solutions for the ledger and reconciliation workflows.
• Translate product requirements into actionable technical plans for the team.
• Deliver production-ready code with reliability and operability in mind.
• Investigation and resolution of live production issues to prevent recurrence.
• Collaborate with Finance and Product to align technical design with business needs.
• Mentor and review peers to raise engineering standards.
