Engine by Starling is seeking Backend Software Engineers to join the Engine Platform and scale banking tech for global partners. You will work on Java-based services, build new features from scratch, and contribute to tooling used by engineers daily.

We value engineers who are curious, collaborative and comfortable across teams, with a pragmatic approach to clean code, automated tests, and continuous deployment. Hybrid working in the UK is supported.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Java and cloud-native backends.
• Experience with microservices architecture.
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration across teams.
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects or domains within the Engine team.
• Contribute to the backend platform and internal tooling.
• Build features from scratch in a configurable way.
• Share knowledge and mentor colleagues.
• Own projects and deliver in small cross-bank teams.
