Job summary

Ventula Consulting is seeking a Backend Software Engineer in Manchester to design, build and operate cloud-native backend services for a major digital travel platform. The role focuses on Java/Spring Boot, REST APIs and partner integrations within an AWS/Kubernetes/Kafka environment, with production ownership from design to deployment.

The position is a contract running through to the end of 2026, offering a £560p/d rate (Inside IR35) and hybrid Manchester working.

Qualifications

Proficient Java backend development with Spring Boot.
Experience building cloud-native services on AWS.
Familiarity with Kubernetes deployments and scaling.
Knowledge of Kafka or similar messaging systems.
Experience designing APIs, microservices and third‑party integrations.
Understanding of distributed systems including retries, timeouts and idempotency.
Experience with automated testing, CI/CD and production operations.

Responsibilities

Build and operate scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
Develop partner integrations and data ingestion capabilities.
Design and integrate REST/HTTP APIs.
Work with AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka and event‑driven architectures.
Design services for resilience, scalability, security and observability.
Own solutions from initial requirements through to production.
Diagnose production issues using logs, metrics, traces and dashboards.
Contribute to technical designs, code reviews, testing and engineering improvements.
