Senior Backend Engineer — Distributed Pub/Sub

Job summary

Dex is partnering with a company building core infrastructure for planet-scale real-time data. You will join the Pub/Sub team, owning design, development, and optimisation of systems engineered for extreme reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• Commercial, production experience with distributed systems, performance analysis, and large-scale infrastructure.
• Proven track record building or working with messaging queues and/or pub/sub systems at real scale.
• Extensive experience with a high-level server-side language; Node.js or Go preferred.
• A strong, hands-on coder who can clear a deliberately tough technical bar.
• Practical experience using AI tooling to accelerate development, coupled with a clear understanding of where human rigour is indispensable.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy core backend services with focus on low latency, high availability, and scalability.
• Drive new functionality and initiatives to scale and improve the Pub/Sub platform.
• Ship new features, implement performance improvements, and perform essential maintenance for planet-scale infrastructure.
• Leverage AI tools for rapid planning, prototyping, and iteration while owning technical decisions and quality.
