Job summary

Dex is seeking a backend-focused engineer to join a partner building AI software for real-time defence intelligence. You will work on a mission-critical Rust/Python stack, delivering robust, fault-tolerant systems designed for extreme contexts and constrained networks.

Expect engagement with high-stakes environments, RFC-driven collaboration, and a culture of code reviews to unblock colleagues while tackling complex distributed problems and performance challenges.

Qualifications

• Backend experience in systems languages with a focus on reliability.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and failure modes.
• Experience with performance-sensitive, embedded contexts is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features, algorithms, and infrastructure for a mission-critical backend.
• Engineer for extreme conditions: intermittent connectivity, resource-constrained embedded systems, and untrusted networks.
• Ensure system robustness and reliability through comprehensive testing and benchmarking.
• Contribute to a Rust and Python-based stack, with opportunities to learn from prominent open-source contributors.
• Solve complex distributed systems problems where partial degradation and failure modes are the default.
