Job summary

Camunda is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Core / API & Process Automation team. You will work on Camunda 8, an event-sourced, distributed workflow engine used by thousands of customers and millions of people worldwide.

You’ll design, implement, and optimize the engine, ensuring data integrity and high quality while enabling AI-driven orchestration and broad integrations across Camunda’s products. This role requires leadership and collaboration across a global engineering team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in distributed systems.
• Deep knowledge of event-sourced architectures and replay/mutation handling.
• Strong API design with backward compatibility and versioning.
• Ability to diagnose and optimize performance under load.
• Proven technical leadership and ability to mentor teammates.
• Clear written and verbal communication, cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve the event-sourced engine and its API (CQRS, gRPC).
• Lead ambiguous problems end-to-end with ADRs and pragmatic trade-offs.
• Ship high-impact engine features quickly while maintaining quality.
• Improve resiliency, schema evolution, and observability in production.
• Identify and optimize inefficient data-access patterns across stores.
• Lead incidents, drive RCA, mentor teammates, and improve platform hygiene.
