Job summary

Cleo is hiring Senior Backend Engineers to join cross-functional squads and build features that improve users’ financial health. We value polyglot engineers and prioritize solid fundamentals over language specifics, with Ruby as a strong current base and openness to other stacks.

You’ll work closely with engineers, designers, analysts, and product partners to shape the direction of important initiatives, mentor others, and raise the bar on quality and reliability across systems.

Qualifications

• Solid fundamentals across modern tech stacks; language doesn’t matter as long as you reason clearly and trade-offs well.
• Track record of writing maintainable, thoughtful code with good technical decisions.
• Comfort with Ruby or ability to ramp quickly; polyglot mindset encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Shape the direction of upcoming work with your squad and drive projects from discovery to shipped impact.
• Build and evolve APIs, data models, and business logic; strong fundamentals over language specifics.
• Contribute to testing, observability, and improve developer experience and product quality.
• Drive high-impact initiatives such as feature sets and experiments in pricing and financial insight.
• Mentor engineers and foster a culture of growth and ownership.
