Job summary

Hippo is seeking a Senior Azure Data Engineer to join our Managed Services Team in the Manchester area. You will lead production data pipelines, collaborate with internal and client teams, and drive platform reliability and data-driven decision making.

You’ll apply expertise in SQL, Python, Microsoft Fabric, and Azure Data Factory to deliver scalable, automated data solutions, with on-call commitments within a dynamic consultancy environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer delivering production data pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of T-SQL and SQL Server with performance tuning/ query optimisation.
• Scripting with Python for automation.
• Hands-on with Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory including orchestration, linked services, env management, parametisation.
• Experience with SSIS for ETL and legacy data tasks.
• Expertise in CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, Terraform, ARM).
• Familiarity with Power BI/Synapse Analytics in MS data ecosystem.
• Proven ability to work in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) and TDD environments.
• Strong communication with technical/non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience managing multiple client environments for stability and performance.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate technical leadership within Managed Services and data communities.
• Support and enhance data solutions built on Microsoft Fabric, SQL, Azure Data Factory, and SSIS.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline issues across client environments.
• Design and implement robust CI/CD practices for data workflows and deployments.
• Lead on performance tuning, data optimisation, and platform reliability improvements.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate data issues into actions.
• Maintain strong client relationships with reliability and value delivery.
• Mentor junior data engineers and promote best practices.
