Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Principal AWS Cloud Engineer for a UK defence/security-facing client. You will define cloud strategy, architect resilient AWS solutions, and provide technical direction across engineering teams.

This role is hands-on and leadership-focused, requiring deep AWS expertise and the ability to mentor engineers while delivering secure, scalable cloud platforms. Hybrid work with onsite days and SC clearance eligibility are expected.

Qualifications

Must have AWS cloud experience designing and operating AWS infrastructure.
Strong IaC and configuration management expertise.
Experience leading large-scale technical initiatives across teams.

Responsibilities

Architect multi-region AWS environments aligned to long-term objectives.
Develop and maintain IaC with Terraform for AWS Control Tower and landing zones.
Develop backend services, automation scripts, and tooling.
Prototype and evaluate new AWS services to improve capability and time-to-market.
Guide technical decisions and ensure infra-software integration.
Design and deploy enterprise-grade CI/CD pipelines and developer platforms.
Drive AWS cost optimisation and performance improvements.
Advise engineering leadership on cloud strategy and governance.
Mentor engineers across levels to foster improvement.
