Job summary

Currie & Brown is seeking a Senior or Associate Building Surveyor to join our Exeter or Plymouth team. You will deliver refurbishment and asset-improvement projects, lead client engagements, and mentor junior colleagues. The role offers scope for increasing leadership responsibilities across a growing Southwest portfolio.

You will manage feasibility studies, prepare specifications and cost plans, and contribute to bid submissions while ensuring health and safety compliance across projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Building Surveying or related RICS-accredited discipline.
• MRICS status preferred; chartered status considered advantageous.
• Strong technical Building Surveying expertise.
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and drive business development.
• Experience mentoring and developing colleagues within a professional environment.
• Strong project/workload management and reporting skills.
• Solid understanding of health and safety legislation and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Deliver refurbishment, upgrade and asset-improvement projects across multiple sectors.
• Lead projects from inception through completion with feasibility assessments and cost planning.
• Prepare specifications and cost plans; write client-facing reports and feasibility studies.
• Mentor APC candidates and supervise junior Building Surveyors to maintain high performance.
• Build client relationships and contribute to bid submissions and business growth.

securing statutory approvals and contract administration. Manage and administer standard forms of contract, including JCT and NEC, ensuring projects are delivered effectively and compliantly. Provide professional building surveying advice across a broad range of services and technical disciplines. Support the development of junior team members through mentoring, coaching and supervision, including APC candidates working towards RICS chartership. Promote and apply best practice in quality, health and safety, environmental management and project delivery. Assist senior leadership with operational activities, project oversight and strategic initiatives. Manage and support junior Building Surveyors, helping to develop capability and maintain high performance standards. Undertake inspections, surveys, schedules of condition and other professional surveying services, while overseeing regional project delivery. Contribute to business growth by identifying opportunities, building client relationships and
supporting bid and proposal submissions.

What You'll Bring

Degree-qualified in Building Surveying or a related RICS-accredited discipline. MRICS status is preferred, with chartered status considered highly advantageous. Strong technical expertise backed by substantial Building Surveying experience. Proven ability to manage client relationships, with a sound understanding of commercial performance, profitability and business development. Experience leading, mentoring and developing colleagues within a professional environment. Demonstrable project and workload management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities. Strong report-writing and technical documentation skills, including feasibility studies, specifications, asset reviews and client-facing reports. Comprehensive understanding of health and safety legislation, statutory compliance and risk management requirements. Specialist professional surveying expertise in areas such as Dilapidations, Party Wall matters, Fire Risk
Assessments and Access Audits. Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach to delivering high-quality outcomes.
