Job summary

Hempsons, part of the HF group, is seeking a Senior Associate in healthcare litigation to join our team across Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Harrogate on a hybrid basis. The role involves managing a wide range of healthcare litigation matters for NHS and other healthcare providers, with opportunities for client secondments.

You will handle pre-action work, trial preparation, witness interviews, cost management and supervising junior team members while contributing to business development.

Qualifications

Experience in healthcare litigation, ideally from a panel firm or medical defence indemnifier.
Familiar with issues relevant to clients in the healthcare sector.
Able to work to tight deadlines and targets.
Able to supervise a team and provide client training and support.

Responsibilities

Pre-action investigation and drafting.
Drafting of reports and advice to clients.
Preparation and attendance of trials and ADR/settlement meetings.
Interviewing witnesses and drafting statements.
Cost management.
Multi-party litigation.
Negotiation of settlement.
Court hearing attendance incl. CCMCs and application hearings.
Supervision of other team members.
Business development activities appropriate to role.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Associate / healthcare litigation lawyer, who will undertake a wide variety of healthcare litigation work for the NHS and other public and private healthcare providers. There may also be an opportunity to undertake client secondments.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to join one of the country's leading healthcare law firms

Key Responsibilities

Duties to include but not limited to;

Pre-action investigation and drafting;
Drafting of reports and advice to clients;
Preparation and attendance of trials and ADR / settlement meetings / mediations;
Interviewing witnesses and drafting of statements
Cost management;
Multi-party litigation;
Negotiation of settlement;
Preparation and attendance at Court hearings including CCMCs and application hearings
Supervision of other team members
Client training and support activities including; presentations, seminars and webinars
Supervision of a team
Business development activities (appropriate to role)

Skills & Competencies

Previous healthcare litigation experience, ideally from another panel firm or medical defence insurer or indemnifier
Familiar with issues relevant to our clients within the healthcare sector
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Excellent attention to detail

Able to uphold strong confidentiality and ensure compliance with client requirements
