Job summary

Horwich Farrelly, a leading healthcare litigation firm, invites applications for a Senior Associate in Clinical Negligence to cover NHS and other healthcare clients from Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Harrogate. This is a hybrid, permanent role.

You will oversee pre-action investigations, draft reports, attend trials and ADRs, supervise junior lawyers, and contribute to business development while upholding client confidentiality and deadlines.

Qualifications

• Experience in healthcare litigation, NHS matters or medical defence environments.
• Ability to manage pre-action investigations, reporting and client communications.
• Evidence of handling trials, ADRs and cost management in complex cases.
• Experience supervising junior lawyers and supporting business development.

Responsibilities

• Oversee pre-action investigations and drafting for healthcare claims.
• Draft reports and advice to clients and attendance at trials/ADR sessions.
• Supervise other team members and support training activities.
• Contribute to business development and client relationship management.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Associate / healthcare litigation lawyer, who will undertake a wide variety of healthcare litigation work for the NHS and other public and private healthcare providers. There may also be an opportunity to undertake client secondments. This role will provide you with the opportunity to join one of the country's leading healthcare law firms

Key Responsibilities:

Duties to include but not limited to;

• Pre-action investigation and drafting;
• Drafting of reports and advice to clients;
• Preparation and attendance of trials and ADR / settlement meetings / mediations;
• Interviewing witnesses and drafting of statements
• Cost management;
• Multi-party litigation;
• Negotiation of settlement;
• Preparation and attendance at Court hearings including CCMCs and application hearings
• Supervision of other team members
• Client training and support activities including; presentations, seminars and webinars
• Supervision of a team
• Business development activities (appropriate to role)
• Previous healthcare litigation experience, ideally from another panel firm or medical defence insurer or indemnifier
• Familiar with issues relevant to our clients within the healthcare sector
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Able to uphold strong confidentiality and ensure compliance with client requirements
• Able to work to tight deadlines and targets
• Flexible and willing to take on a varied workload
• Able to work as part of a wider team
