An exciting opportunity for a Senior Assistant Technical Officer to join a busy cardio-respiratory department. The role involves performing diagnostic tests and assisting with investigations, requiring excellent communication and IT skills. Full training will be provided, and the position is split between hospital sites and a community diagnostic center.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Senior Assistant Technical Officer (SATO) to join our busy department. This post will be split between the PRH/RSH site and the new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) based at Hollinswood House.
The successful applicant will need experience in dealing with the general public, ideally in a healthcare setting. Excellent IT and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure in a sometimes challenging role.
When trained, you will perform basic diagnostic tests including 12-lead ECGs, fitting longer-term ECG monitors, blood pressure, and sleep monitoring. You will also be trained in performing basic respiratory tests (Spirometry/FeNO) and assisting with Exercise ECGs. You will be expected to cover all hospital environments when on the PRH/RSH site and work independently at the CDC.

Responsibilities include:
Senior Assistant Technical Officers (SATO) are healthcare workers who perform or assist with physiological measurement investigations, with results used to inform patient treatment strategies in inpatient and outpatient settings.
The role requires excellent communication skills to reassure often anxious patients.
A basic knowledge of ECG interpretation is required to alert medics to any acute ECG changes needing immediate attention. The post holder should also be able to assess potential contraindications and understand how to obtain accurate spirometry results. Full training will be provided.
The Cardio-respiratory Department has bases at both hospital sites, with Cardiac Diagnostics primarily at The Princess Royal Hospital. We are a large, friendly team working closely with admin and physiologists to deliver a comprehensive diagnostic service.
