Role Description

E3P is looking for a capable and motivated Senior Arboricultural Consultant to join our Manchester/Birmingham-based team.

This is a hands-on technical role suited to an arboriculturist who can independently undertake surveys, prepare high-quality reports and drawings, and support the delivery of development and tree-management projects.

You will work alongside senior members of the Arboriculture team and E3P’s wider environmental and engineering disciplines. The position offers the opportunity to develop your technical and project-management experience while working across residential, commercial, infrastructure and public-sector projects throughout the UK.

The role will be based from our Manchester or Birmingham office, with flexible working arrangements and regular travel to project sites.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake BS5837 tree surveys for planning and development projects.
• Complete tree-condition and tree-risk inspections.
• Collect accurate survey information using appropriate digital surveying equipment and software.
• Prepare Tree Survey Schedules and clear, technically accurate arboricultural reports.
• Produce Arboricultural Impact Assessments and Arboricultural Method Statements under the guidance of senior team members where required.
• Prepare Tree Constraints Plans, Tree Impact Plans and Tree Protection Plans using AutoCAD.
• Identify development constraints and provide practical recommendations for tree retention and protection.
• Review proposed site layouts and identify potential conflicts involving trees, RPAs, access, drainage, services, levels and hard landscaping.
• Undertake site monitoring and arboricultural supervision during construction.
• Liaise with clients, local authority tree officers and other project consultants.
• Manage allocated workloads and deliver work within agreed budgets and timescales.
• Maintain clear project records and assist with general project administration.
• Support and share technical knowledge with graduate and junior team members.
• Contribute to the continued improvement of the team’s reports, drawings, and working procedures.

About you

You should have practical experience of arboricultural surveying and consultancy work and be comfortable completing projects with an appropriate level of independence. You will be organised, approachable and able to explain arboricultural matters clearly to clients and other professionals.

• A relevant qualification in arboriculture, forestry, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of three years’ relevant arboricultural experience.
• Experience undertaking BS5837 tree surveys.
• Experience preparing arboricultural reports for planning applications.
• A sound working knowledge of BS5837:2012 and BS3998:2010.
• An understanding of the UK planning system and tree-related planning considerations.
• Experience undertaking tree-condition or tree-risk inspections.
• Good tree-identification and diagnostic skills.
• Strong written communication and report-writing abilities.
• The ability to organise site work and manage multiple deadlines.
• Confidence working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A full UK driving licence.
• Experience mentoring or supervising junior colleagues, with a collaborative approach and commitment to team development and wellbeing.
• Full driving license and willingness to travel to sites across Manchester/ Birmingham and wider regions as needed.

The following would be advantageous

• LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection certification.
• Current QTRA registration or experience using another recognised tree-risk assessment system.
• Experience using AutoCAD.
• Experience with digital tree-survey systems, GIS or GPS equipment.
• Professional membership of the Arboricultural Association, Institute of Chartered Foresters or another relevant body.
