Job summary

A highly specialised analytical service provider is seeking an Application Scientist/Spectroscopist in Blackburn to support SEM, SEM/EDX and FTIR based projects. You will work on a fast-moving, varied technical environment involving failure analysis and reverse engineering.

Role requires deep hands-on expertise with SEM/EDX and FTIR, with a track record of delivering high-quality analytical results and strong client communication.

Qualifications

  • Ideally a degree to/or PhD in physical chemistry or materials science or equivalent.
  • 5+ years operating and using SEM, SEM/EDX and FTIR instruments.
  • Ability to work in a team and meet deadlines.
  • Capable of delivering high-quality work with minimal supervision.
  • Positive approach to new methods, equipment and problem solving.
  • Experience solving industry analytical problems in legal, manufacturing or development contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Be the subject matter expert for SEM, SEM/EDX and FTIR microscopes.
  • Handle and prepare a wide variety of sample matrices.
  • Troubleshoot SEM and SEM/EDX hands-on.
  • Interpolate data from SEM, FTIR and FTIR microscopy.
  • Perform instrument troubleshooting and ensure reported results are accurate and validated.
  • Communicate findings effectively with internal and external clients.
