Job summary

VRS-UK is hiring an experienced Electron Microscopy Scientist or Post-doc for a dynamic customer-facing role in the UK. You will bridge customers with R&D, support installations and deliver demonstrations across academic and industry sectors.

The position requires a PhD in a relevant field, hands-on TEM/SEM/STEM/FIB-SEM experience, and ability to travel ~30% to engage with customers in the UK and beyond. Strong communication and data handling skills are essential.

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (Physics, Biology, Materials Science, Engineering or similar).
• Strong hands-on experience with electron microscopy technologies (TEM, SEM, STEM, FIB-SEM).
• Experience with Python and image/data processing workflows is desirable.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; ability to translate science to customers.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical bridge between customers and internal R&D teams.
• Support installations, configuration and troubleshooting of microscopy software.
• Deliver product demonstrations, training sessions and workshops (remote and on-site).
• Understand workflows and recommend optimized solutions.
• Provide feedback to support product development and feature design.
• Assist pre-sales activities with technical expertise.
• Contribute to technical documentation and testing of new releases.
• Represent the company at conferences and industry events.

Are you an experienced Electron Microscopy Scientist or Post-doc seeking a dynamic customer-facing role?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing, cutting-edge technology business developing advanced imaging software for electron microscopy. In this is a hands-on, customer-facing role you'll provide pre-and-post sales support to customers. You will sit at the intersection of science, software and applications, helping translate innovative technology into real-world impact across academic research and industry.

Key responsibilities

• Acting as the technical bridge between customers and internal R&D teams
• Supporting installations, configuration and troubleshooting of advanced microscopy software
• Delivering product demonstrations, training sessions and workshops (remote and on-site)
• Working closely with customers to understand workflows and recommend optimised solutions
• Feeding back insights to support product development and new feature design
• Supporting pre-sales activities with technical expertise
• Contributing to technical documentation and testing of new software releases
• Representing the business at conferences, workshops and industry events

You will bring

• PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Physics, Biology, Materials Science, Engineering or similar)
• Strong hands-on experience with multiple electron microscopy technologies (TEM, SEM, STEM, FIB-SEM) - experience with 4D-STEM is highly desirable
• Experience with Python and image/data processing workflows is desirable
• A problem-solving mindset with the ability to apply complex techniques in practical settings - experience with instrument/application troubleshooting is beneficial
• Confident communication skills
• Solid understanding of imaging workflows, analysis software and data handling
• Flexibility to travel (~30%) and engage with customers across the UK and beyond
