The Semantic Business Information (SBI) team at Yelp is seeking a Backend engineer to support our platform that collects, curates, and serves critical business data. We provide this structured information to internal teams to create richer user experiences. We are the backbone of Yelp's most important content, and we welcome a talented engineer to our team!

What you'll do:

1. Build, extend, and support backend platforms to collect trusted business data.
2. Collaborate with engineering groups like Search, Local Services, and Ads to develop APIs and streaming solutions for easy data consumption.
3. Work with database teams to select appropriate storage solutions for our scale.
4. Create tools and services to monitor and ensure data quality.
5. Make informed build-or-buy decisions to meet business goals.

What it takes to succeed:

1. Fluency in object-oriented languages (Python or Java), SQL (or NoSQL), Unix, and CI/CD pipelines.
2. Experience supporting large-scale distributed systems for consumer apps or websites.
3. Proficiency in building effective APIs (REST or GraphQL).
4. Ability to use performance analysis tools (tracers, profilers, debuggers).
5. Several years of full-time experience.
6. Curiosity and persistence to solve new problems and see projects through.
