Job summary

Milton Keynes City Council is recruiting a Senior Analyst to join the Adults and Children’s Performance and Insights team. You will transform complex datasets into meaningful insights that support decisions impacting children, families and adults in the community.

You will produce timely intelligence, help with statutory returns, and drive improvements in reporting and data quality within a collaborative, supportive environment.

Qualifications

• A degree-level qualification in statistics, information management or a related subject, or equivalent professional experience.
• Ability to analyse complex datasets and present findings clearly to inform decisions.
• Experience using analytical and reporting tools such as SQL, Power BI, SSRS.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality performance analysis and business intelligence to support evidence-based decisions.
• Lead production of clear performance reports that identify trends, risks and opportunities.
• Support development of reporting systems and performance frameworks across services.
• Work to improve data quality, standards and information governance.
• Coordinate statutory returns and provide analytic support during inspections.
• Coach colleagues to develop reporting skills and use BI tools effectively.

Roles are either ‘site based’ or ‘home based’.

The working arrangement for each role is set by the manager, based on service requirements.

The Adults and Children’s Performance and Insights team plays a vital role in helping Milton Keynes City Council understand how services are performing, supporting evidence-based decision-making, service improvement, and statutory accountability.

Working closely with Adult Social Care and Children’s Services, the team transforms complex information into clear and meaningful insight that supports better services and better outcomes for local people.

As a Senior Analyst, you'll play a key role in providing accurate, timely intelligence that helps managers and senior leaders make informed decisions. Working in a collaborative and supportive environment, you'll contribute to high-quality reporting, statutory returns, business intelligence, and evidence-based service development.

This version keeps the manager's stronger candidate-focused hook whilst retaining the substance and purpose from your original advert.

This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment. Home‑based roles require a minimum of one day per week working from the office or site.

Ideal Candidate

• You bring a degree-level qualification in statistics, information management, or a related subject, or equivalent professional experience in a similar analytical role.
• Your ability to analyse complex datasets and present findings in a clear and meaningful way enables others to make informed decisions.
• Experience in using analytical and reporting tools such as SQL, Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services, or comparable technologies will help you succeed in this role.
• A strong understanding of performance management, business intelligence, and data quality principles is essential.
• Confidence when communicating with colleagues, managers, partners, and stakeholders allows you to explain complex information in a simple and accessible way.
• Proven skills in producing statutory returns within Adult Social Care or Children’s Services, or the ability to demonstrate transferable experience in a comparable reporting environment, are highly valued.
