At ALS, we encourage you to dream big.

When you join us, you'll be part of a global team harnessing the power of scientific testing and data-driven insights to build a healthier future.

The Role

Whether you're looking for a unique role in environmental science, seeking a better work-life balance, or wanting to develop your instrument knowledge and maintenance skills - this is an excellent opportunity for those passionate about environmental protection.

At ALS in Hawarden, we're proud to be at the forefront of environmental testing in the region. We're now looking for a dedicated Senior Analyst to join our team and support vital monitoring of the River Dee, a key waterway for both local communities and wildlife.

As a field-based role, you'll spend much of your time independently managing our monitoring stations across the River Dee - so a full UK driving licence and a confident, self-sufficient working style are essential. You'll need a technical mindset and be confident speaking with clients in person and over the phone. This role operates on a 7 days on, 7 days off shift pattern, meaning you'll work across weekdays, weekends, bank holidays and key holiday dates - but enjoy a full week off in return, providing an excellent work-life balance.

About the Position

Location: Hawarden Contract Type: Full time, Permanent Working Pattern: 7 days on, 7 days off (including weekends and bank holidays) Hours: 0800-1600 Salary: From £29,272 (pro-rata) dependent on experience

The Day to Day
  • Driving to the 3 monitoring stations, applying your instrument knowledge to check and maintain equipment quality and ensure high standards of data integrity.
  • Carrying out basic maintenance, troubleshooting and fixing analytical instruments, and reporting findings back to the Dee Organics Lab.
  • Applying a quality control mindset to all data and equipment checks, ensuring accurate and reliable results at all times.
  • Participating in an on-call rota to ensure we provide continuous 24/7 service across the year, responding to alarms generated from the equipment.
  • Confidently speaking with clients in person and over the phone to communicate findings, updates and any issues.
  • Helping identify new opportunities to support and grow the service offering.
  • Supporting the Dee Organics Lab in the event of a pollution incident.
The Essentials
  • A genuine passion for environmental protection and water quality.
  • A technical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot, fix and report on instrument issues independently.
  • Strong instrument knowledge, with previous experience in laboratory instrumentation, maintenance and troubleshooting highly desirable.
  • Comfortable driving regularly - visiting our monitoring sites involves a 70-mile round trip from Hawarden.
  • Confident speaking with clients in person and over the phone, with strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to quality control, with a methodical and responsible approach to delivering accurate results under time pressure.
  • Confidence in following set procedures and carrying out basic maintenance tasks.
  • Experience in HPLC analysis is highly desirable.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential.
  • A responsible approach when dealing with audits and regulatory requirements.
Our Benefits Include
  • Annual Leave commencing at 20 days, plus 8 public holidays (pro rata for part time)
