Job summary

Imperial College London is seeking an AI Solution Architect to shape how the university designs, governs and adopts AI across ICT. You will lead architecture across product lines, collaborate with engineering, data and research teams, and ensure secure, scalable AI solutions aligned with Imperial’s Digital Strategy.

Qualifications

• Experience designing complex digital or enterprise solutions within large, diverse or federated organisations.
• Experience delivering AI, machine learning or data-driven solutions across multiple systems or domains.
• Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, including generative AI and LLMs, in enterprise contexts.
• Knowledge of data architecture, pipelines, MLOps, and AI platforms, tooling and services.
• Ability to design responsible, secure and ethical AI with guardrails, oversight and risk balance.
• Familiarity with modern architecture approaches: cloud, APIs, microservices and secure-by-design.
• Experience across the full product or platform lifecycle from discovery to live service.
• Excellent communication with senior stakeholders, technical teams and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI solution architecture across ICT product lines and Imperial, aligned to principles and standards.
• Design end-to-end AI solutions spanning generative AI, ML, data pipelines and deployment pipelines.
• Set guardrails for AI agents, including tool access, permissions, autonomy levels and oversight.
• Champion responsible AI, data governance, security and regulatory obligations.
• Lead in governance through Technical Design Authority and architecture groups.
• Provide technical leadership to delivery teams, advocating modern engineering practices.
• Be the AI design authority advising product lines on responsible adoption and integration.
• Support research groups adopting AI tools balancing academic freedom with security.
