Job summary

The Opportunity Hub UK Ltd in Aberdeen is seeking a Senior AI Research Scientist to shape our research agenda and deliver models that ship at scale. This role combines hands-on research with collaboration across engineering and product teams.

You will design experiments, lead model development from hypothesis to evaluation, and mentor junior researchers while establishing technical standards for our enterprise AI & Technology function.

Qualifications

• Strong track record in applied ML research with publications or shipped models.
• Deep, practical experience with Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow).
• Comfort operating at senior level: setting direction, not just following a spec.
• Solid grasp of statistics and experimental design.
• Ability to explain complex ideas clearly in writing and speech.
• Experience within enterprise frameworks and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Design and run research experiments that feed directly into production AI systems, not just internal papers
• Lead model development from early hypothesis through to evaluation, working across large, messy datasets
• Partner with engineering teams to get research findings into shipped features, on schedule
• Reviewing and mentoring junior researchers, setting technical standards for the wider AI & Technology function
• Presenting findings to stakeholders who don't always speak machine learning, and making it land anyway
• Keeping an eye on the wider research landscape so the team isn't reinventing what's already been solved elsewhere

An established enterprise player with 250+ staff and a genuine footprint in the sector is looking for a Senior AI Research Scientist to help shape the research agenda behind projects that actually ship at scale. This isn't a lab experiment. It's a role with real infrastructure, real budget, and real weight behind it.

Here's what you'll be doing:

Designing and running research experiments that feed directly into production AI systems, not just internal papers

Leading model development from early hypothesis through to evaluation, working across large, messy datasets

Partnering with engineering teams to get research findings into shipped features, on schedule

Reviewing and mentoring junior researchers, setting technical standards for the wider AI & Technology function

Presenting findings to stakeholders who don't always speak machine learning, and making it land anyway

Here are the skills you'll need:

• A strong track record in applied machine learning research, ideally with published work or shipped models to show for it
• Deep, practical experience with Python and the standard ML frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow)
• Comfort operating at senior level: setting direction, not just following a spec
• Solid grasp of statistics and experimental design. Guesswork doesn't cut it here
• The ability to explain complicated ideas simply, in writing and out loud
• Experience working within structured frameworks and established best practices, typical of enterprise environments
