Job summary

RightShip, a leading safety and risk intelligence platform for the maritime industry, seeks a Senior AI Engineer in London to join the Product team. You will shape AI solutions, prototype LLM-driven applications, and deliver production-ready code with robust evaluation and documentation.

You will work on Azure-based deployments, retrieval and embedding pipelines, and Responsible AI practices, collaborating with Product Managers and engineers to turn complex safety data into actionable

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of hands‑on AI/ML or software engineering experience, with production‑level LLM-based apps.
• Strong Python and software engineering fundamentals: testing, packaging, version control, code review and CI.
• Experience building agentic systems and RAG pipelines with LangGraph and LangChain or similar.
• Experience designing and running LLM evaluations and monitoring quality in production.
• Practical knowledge of embeddings, vector search and hybrid retrieval.
• Experience deploying AI workloads on Azure (Azure OpenAI / AI Foundry, Azure AI Search).
• Comfortable in loosely defined experimental settings and explaining trade-offs to non-technical colleagues.
• Excellent communication skills, including explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Gather and refine requirements with Product Managers and translate into AI solutions with clear success criteria.
• Rapidly prototype and experiment with LLM-based applications, agents and retrieval pipelines.
• Propose and document architectures: model choice, orchestration, data access, guardrails, cost and latency trade-offs.
• Design and build AI evaluation suites, offline and online, to monitor quality in production.
• Produce production-ready code with tests, evals, docs and observability, hand to engineering teams for productionisation.
• Build and maintain retrieval and embedding pipelines over maritime data and the RightShip knowledge graph.
• Apply Responsible AI practices: guardrails, bias assessment, risk management alignment.
• Present results and recommendations to product, engineering and stakeholders.
• Contribute to AI tooling, patterns and standards; review code and share knowledge.
• Keep abreast of models, agent frameworks and evaluation methods; assess adoption.
