Job summary

ALTEN is seeking an AI Engineer to develop cutting-edge AI/ML capabilities for defence and aerospace programmes. You will design, train, evaluate and deploy robust AI solutions within a multidisciplinary team, driving innovation across autonomy, NLP, computer vision and data analytics.

The role offers hybrid working across Bristol, Crawley or Glasgow with on-site attendance based on project needs and requires 5+ years of relevant experience and SC clearance eligibility.

Qualifications

• Strong Python development with AI/ML frameworks.
• Experience deploying ML solutions in production.
• Knowledge of ROS2 and autonomous systems.
• CI/CD, testing, version control, code quality.
• Data processing with Pandas/NumPy; SQL; deployment tech such as FastAPI/ONNX.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
• Collaborative in multidisciplinary teams; delivery-focused.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop AI/ML solutions for complex challenges.
• Translate requirements into scalable AI architectures and designs.
• Develop, train, evaluate, and optimise models (CV, NLP, time-series, autonomy).
• Build data pipelines, experiment tracking, and model validation.
• Collaborate with software, systems, cyber and data engineers to productionise AI.
• Champion Responsible AI with security and regulatory alignment.
• Develop reusable AI components and reference implementations.
• Support demonstrations, bids, PoCs and customer workshops.
