Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Assistant to join a dynamic team within a well-established SME. This role will be responsible for managing various accounting processes, from accounts payable to bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Accounts Payable Management: Handle the end-to-end process, including ledger housekeeping, invoice verification (via OCR), and accurate posting to Sage.
  2. Invoice & Credit Note Processing: Raise ad hoc sales invoices, approved credit notes, and assist with invoice runs for group companies.
  3. Supplier & Purchase Order Management: Handle supplier queries and monitor the purchase order system.
  4. Credit Control: Provide cover during absences, including opening customer accounts, coordinating with credit insurers, and following up on payment promises.
  5. Bank & Intercompany Reconciliation: Manage reconciliations for group companies, ensuring accurate reporting and handling transfers for payments made to incorrect accounts.
  6. Month-End Assistance: Support with month-end tasks, including posting transactions, reviewing invoices, and preparing financial reports.
  7. General Financial Support: Manage the accounts mailbox and assist with ad hoc tasks as needed.
Key Qualifications
  • AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting or equivalent experience.
Key Skills & Attributes
  • Proficiency in Sage 50 with a minimum of 3 years of experience in an accounting role within an SME environment.
  • Strong Excel skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels, able to work well within a small team.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and proactive, with a willingness to contribute beyond the core role when needed.
