Senior Accountancy Assistant

Grade 4: £30,559 - £32,645 (based on 37 hours) pro rata

Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service (NFRS) is looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our Finance team. As a Senior Accountancy Assistant, you will provide a comprehensive range of accounting and financial services to NFRS, including accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in keeping our communities safe.

Key Responsibilities

1. Reconcile payroll transactions with the financial information system, investigate variances, input correcting journals, and report explanations.
2. Prepare financial reports, estimates, and statistics; contribute to the calculation of new budgets as required.
3. Maintain and produce all sales invoices related to income, ensure timely debt collection, report potential bad debts and write-offs, and record communications for small claim court cases.
4. Write procedures relevant to this role and work flexibly during busy periods to ensure timely completion of duties.
5. At year-end, investigate balance sheets, analyze debtors and creditors, and provide findings to external auditors.
6. Provide the Finance Department with coverage on various tasks as needed.

Experience and Qualifications

• Qualified Accounting Technician, member of AAT or equivalent.
• Experience in a finance department, specializing in financial and management accounting.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with external advisors and stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Attention to detail and understanding of confidentiality.
• Knowledge of accounting principles and concepts.
• Experience working within the public sector is preferred but not essential.
