Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service (NFRS) is looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our Finance team. As a Senior Accountancy Assistant, you will provide a comprehensive range of accounting and financial services to NFRS, including accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in keeping our communities safe.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile payroll transactions with the financial information system, investigate variances, input correcting journals, and report explanations.
- Prepare financial reports, estimates, and statistics; contribute to the calculation of new budgets as required.
- Maintain and produce all sales invoices related to income, ensure timely debt collection, report potential bad debts and write-offs, and record communications for small claim court cases.
- Write procedures relevant to this role and work flexibly during busy periods to ensure timely completion of duties.
- At year-end, investigate balance sheets, analyze debtors and creditors, and provide findings to external auditors.
- Provide the Finance Department with coverage on various tasks as needed.
Experience and Qualifications
- Qualified Accounting Technician, member of AAT or equivalent.
- Experience in a finance department, specializing in financial and management accounting.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with external advisors and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Attention to detail and understanding of confidentiality.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and concepts.
- Experience working within the public sector is preferred but not essential.
