Job summary

Hitachi Energy UK Limited seeks a Senior AC Protection and Control Lead Engineer in the HVDC sector, based in Glasgow (hybrid with Birmingham option). You will define, cost and deliver AC protection and control solutions for tender and execution projects, with manufacturing subcontracted.

Responsibilities include translating specifications to design, evaluating sub-supplier quotes, and leading the design team through FAT/SAT support. A strong background in protection schemes is essential.

Qualifications

• Translate customer specifications and protection schemes into conceptual design.
• Evaluate sub-supplier quotes based on the specified requirements and future design.
• Continuously monitor the design and manufacturing process, leading the design team in dialogue with customers, suppliers and stakeholders.
• Review of detailed protection panel design, including interfaces to main components and intercommunication links.
• Ensure compatibility between functional requirements, panel design, relay configuration and settings prior to FAT.
• Review suppliers test program and supervise FAT.
• Remotely assist installation and SAT as needed.

We are convinced that HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology, solutions for energy transfer with direct current at high voltages, is a long-term sustainable solution. The technology is used for energy transmission over long distances and to connect electricity networks with minimal losses. In addition to energy transfer, HVDC technology also alleviates electricity quality problems and can contribute to the stabilization of connected power grids. For offshore wind power or long-distance underwater transmissions, direct current is the only realistic energy transmission alternative.

In this role as Senior AC Protection and Control Lead Engineer at HVDC, you will the technical responsible for definition, costing and delivery of AC Protection and Control solutions in tender work as well as in execution projects. Detailed design and manufacturing will be sourced to sub-suppliers.

Location: Glasgow Office (Preferred) and Birmingham can also be considered

Working Pattern: Hybrid, 3 days office / 2 days home
