Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) in Northampton is seeking an experienced 11kV Network Planner to own complex design activities, lead technical discussions and deliver innovative solutions for customers ranging from domestic developers to major commercial and industrial connections.

The role requires strong 11kV knowledge, the ability to mentor colleagues, and a track record designing connections, reinforcements and network upgrades. Hybrid working applies after training.

Qualifications

• Level 3 City & Guilds 2339 (or equivalent electrical qualification).
• Strong knowledge of 11kV distribution networks and design.
• Experience designing connections, reinforcements or alterations.
• Ability to interpret technical information and apply engineering principles.
• Excellent communication with stakeholders and customers.
• Full UK driving licence and SAP experience is beneficial.
• HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or willingness to pursue.

Responsibilities

• Design and assess complex 11kV connection schemes.
• Carry out load flow studies and fault level assessments.
• Produce feasibility studies and quotations.
• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to planners.
• Engage with customers and key stakeholders in meetings and visits.
• Coordinate with design engineers and operational teams.
• Support reports, offers, and project documentation.
• Site visits to assess requirements and practical solutions.
• Assist with wayleaves and land rights where needed.
• Ensure designs comply with standards and safety rules.
