Job summary

Academics in Portsmouth is seeking an experienced SENCo for a large mainstream primary school with a dedicated autism SEN unit. You will lead SEND provision, liaise with families, staff and external agencies, and drive inclusive practice while ensuring statutory duties are met.

You will collaborate with senior leaders to monitor pupil progress and develop robust strategies to improve outcomes for children with SEND.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• NASENCo or willingness to work towards it.
• Experience as SENCo or in SEND leadership role.
• Strong understanding of autism and effective strategies to support pupils with additional needs.
• Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.
• Genuine passion for improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Responsibilities

A Mainsteam school in Portsmouth are seeking an experienced SENCo to join their dedicated team. The school is a large Primary school who have a specilised SEN UNit for children with autism and other SEN needs , providing a nurturing, structured environment where every pupil is encouraged to thrive both academically and personally.

This is an exciting opportunity for a SENCo to lead and develop the school's SEND provision, working closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, families and external agencies to ensure every pupil receives the highest standard of support. You will play a key role in driving inclusive practice, monitoring progress and ensuring statutory responsibilities are met.

The successful SENCo will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• The National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo), or be willing to work towards it if applicable
• Previous experience working as a SENCo or within a SEND leadership role
• A strong understanding of autism and effective strategies to support pupils with additional needs
• Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills
• A genuine passion for improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND
