Job summary

City of York Council (CYC) is recruiting a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) for our primary schools. This 0.6 FTE post is non-class-based and requires QTS and substantial experience as a primary teacher.

The successful candidate will lead SEND provision, work with leaders, staff, families and external agencies, and drive inclusive practice across the school, ensuring every child is valued and reaches their potential.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and inspirational qualified teacher to join our team as Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo). This role is 0.6 FTE. Whilst this is a non-class-based role, applicants must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have substantial experience as a successful primary classroom teacher. The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough understanding of high-quality teaching and learning, curriculum adaptation and the effective strategies required to meet the diverse needs of all children, particularly those with SEND, disadvantaged children and other vulnerable groups. Working closely with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, teachers, support staff, families and external agencies, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading and developing the school’s SEND provision and promoting inclusive practice across the school.
