Job summary

Southtown Primary School in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, part of the Kingfisher Schools Trust, is seeking an experienced SENDCo to join our hardworking team on a permanent, 0.6FTE basis. Applications from other part-time arrangements are welcome to discuss.

You will hold QTS, be willing to work towards NASENCO, and have proven primary SENDCo experience with strong knowledge of SEN legislation and safeguarding. The role involves leading targeted support, liaising with parents and external agencies,

Responsibilities

• Lead SEND provision and coordinate support for pupils with SEND.
• Work towards NASENCO qualification.
• Demonstrate proven SENDCo experience in a primary school setting.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SEN legislation and safeguarding requirements.
• Lead safeguarding practices and support staff accordingly.
• Apply effective behaviour management strategies.
• Collaborate with staff, parents and external agencies to tailor provision.
• Prioritise workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Job description

Southtown Primary School (part of Kingfisher Schools Trust) is seeking to appoint an experienced SENDCo to join our hardworking team.

This role is offered on a permanent, part-time 0.6FTE basis. We are able to consider other part time arrangements, please do get in touch if you would like to discuss this further.

The school currently supports 47 pupils with identified SEND including 33 on SEND support and 14 with EHCPs in place and was graded as 'expected' for Inclusion in the recent Ofsted inspection (April 2026)

Are you the right candidate to assist with building on this?

• Leaders support pupils with SEND through a clear and consistent approach.
• Leaders have a clear overview of pupils’ needs, including those with special educational needs and or disabilities (SEND), those who are disadvantaged and pupils known to social care. Leaders understand the barriers to learning that pupils face. They provide effective support so that staff identify pupils’ needs quickly and accurately.
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, pupils who are disadvantaged and those known to social care are typically supported well through targeted and timely support. Staff identify pupils’ needs quickly. Leaders ensure that barriers to learning are addressed early. Pupils’ support plans are detailed. Leaders involve parents and external professionals when considering the most appropriate provision to support pupils’ learning.

You will:

• Hold Qualified Teacher Status
• Have, or be willing to work towards National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO)
• Have proven experience as a SENDCo or in a similar role within a primary school setting
• Have strong knowledge of SEN legislation
• Have strong knowledge of safeguarding
• Be experienced in effective behaviour management strategies
• Be able to work collaboratively with staff, parents and external agencies
• Be able to work under pressure and prioritise workload
