Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with ASD and SEMH at a specialist SEND school in Luton. The role covers KS1 in the morning and KS2 in the afternoon, with an immediate start and structured, nurturing learning environments.

You will work with small groups, support classroom activities, and help pupils develop independence and confidence while collaborating with a supportive team of teachers and staff.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND.
• Experience supporting pupils with ASD and/or SEMH needs.
• A patient, empathetic and resilient approach to supporting children's individual needs.
• Confidence supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour or experience emotional regulation difficulties.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• The ability to follow individual support plans and maintain consistent boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with ASD and SEMH needs across Year 2 in the morning and Year 6 in the afternoon.
• Work with small groups of children to support learning, engagement and development.
• Assist the class teacher with classroom activities and adapt tasks to meet individual learning needs.
• Support pupils' emotional regulation, social development and positive behaviour.
• Use consistent approaches to manage challenging behaviour and promote positive relationships.
• Create a calm, structured and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe and supported.
• Encourage pupils to develop independence, confidence and essential life skills.
• Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to ensure pupils receive the best possible support.
