Job summary

Ashby Fields Primary School is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support a child with SEMH needs. The post is term-time, 39 weeks per year, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 3:30pm, with training days.

You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to create a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment. The role will involve helping the child develop emotional regulation, relationships, confidence, independence and engagement with learning.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working with children or young people, preferably within an educational or SEND setting.
  • Commitment to supporting children with additional needs.
  • Understanding SEMH and its impact on behaviour, relationships and learning.
  • Calm, patient and nurturing approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with children while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Safeguarding awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Support a child with SEMH under supervision.
  • Work with class teacher, SENCO and wider team to create a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment.
  • Help the child develop emotional regulation, positive relationships, confidence, independence and engagement with learning.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and safeguard pupils.
