Job summary

Ashurst Primary School is seeking a teaching assistant with a passion for supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) to work under the SEMH Teacher and SENCO in building positive relationships with the children; with the aim of steering them back into mainstream school when they are ready.

The role involves working as part of a team and delivering individualised learning on a 1:1 basis, focusing on managing behaviour, developing self-regulation and social-emotional

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting a pupil on a 1:1 basis with challenging behaviour.
  • Strong understanding of positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and follow school policies.

Responsibilities

  • Support SEMH pupils on a 1:1 basis to overcome educational barriers.
  • Raise SEMH learner standards using school-approved teaching strategies.
  • Plan and implement programmes of support with the SEMH Teacher and SENCO.
  • Establish the ethos of the SEMH Provision and maintain high standards.
  • Communicate with staff and parents about pupils' learning needs.
