Job summary

Teaching Personnel are working with a welcoming primary school in Exmouth, Devon, seeking a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to start October 2026. This full-time, long-term role offers consistent work and a chance to become an integral part of the school community.

You will provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with additional needs, help them access the curriculum, and work closely with teachers and the SENCO to plan effective interventions.

Qualifications

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar education setting.

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with SEND?

Teaching Personnel are working with a welcoming primary school in Exmouth who are looking for a committed and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from October 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking for full-time, consistent work and wants to become an important part of a school community. You will have the opportunity to build strong relationships with pupils, work closely with experienced teaching staff and make a genuine difference to children's progress, confidence and independence.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated support to pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them to feel confident, included and able to access their education.

You may be supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, working with small groups or providing support within the wider classroom, depending on the needs of the pupils.

The school is looking for someone who can bring experience, patience and confidence to the role and who understands that effective SEND support is about much more than simply helping a child complete their work.

Position: SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Exmouth, Devon
Start Date: October 2026
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 8:45am - 3:15pm
Role Type: Full-Time
Contract: Long-Term
Hours: 8:45am - 3:15pm
Pay: Competitive, dependent on experience and qualifications
Working Pattern: Term Time Only

  • Providing consistent 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND
  • Helping pupils access the curriculum and engage positively with their learning

  • Encouraging independence and helping pupils develop confidence in their abilities
  • Supporting pupils who may require additional help with emotional regulation or behaviour
  • Following individual support and learning plans
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team
  • Adapting your approach to meet individual pupils' needs
  • Providing reassurance and consistency throughout the school day
  • Helping create a positive, inclusive and nurturing classroom environment
  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar education setting
  • Experience supporting children with SEND
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach
  • The confidence to manage challenging situations positively
  • The ability to adapt your approach to individual pupils
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A genuine commitment to helping children become more independent
  • The ability to work closely with teachers and other professionals
  • A reliable, professional and proactive attitude
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
