Job summary

TeacherActive is working with a specialist SEND school in South Bristol to recruit a SEND Teaching Assistant for a long-term role from October 2026, with potential to become permanent. You will provide 1:1 support for students with SEMH and ADHD, using creative approaches to promote learning and positive behaviour throughout the school day.

Ideal candidates will have experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour, ideally within SEND settings.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour or similar needs.
• Experience in SEND settings, PRUs, Alternative Provision, youth work or similar.
• Experience with SEMH or ADHD on a 1:1 basis is desirable.
• Creative, patient and resilient with excellent communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle desirable.
• Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

Salary: £14.25 - £18.00 per hour

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a specialist SEND school in South Bristol that supports students aged 11 to 16 with complex additional needs. The school provides a structured, nurturing and therapeutic environment where consistency, positive behaviour support and personalised learning help students build confidence, independence and emotional resilience.

The school is looking to appoint a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant on a long-term basis from October 2026, with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate. The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will provide 1:1 support for students with SEMH and ADHD, using creative and engaging approaches to promote learning, manage challenging behaviour positively and encourage independence throughout the school day.

The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will have:

• Ideally, experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour or similar additional needs
• Ideally, experience working within SEND schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), Alternative Provision, youth work or similar settings
• Experience supporting students with SEMH or ADHD on a 1:1 basis would be desirable, although transferable experience will also be considered
• A creative, patient and resilient approach with excellent communication skills
• Ideally, a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, although this is not essential
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
