Job summary

Connex Education in Sheffield is recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants for flexible day-to-day supply, long-term placements and permanent opportunities. Immediate and September 2026 starts available.

You will provide targeted support to pupils with SEND across specialist and mainstream settings. Qualifications

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you'll provide individualised support to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes both in and outside the classroom.

Depending on the setting, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual learning needs
  • Working closely with teachers and wider school staff to support pupils' learning and development
  • Promoting pupils' independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing
  • Following individual support plans and behaviour strategies in line with school policies
  • Encouraging participation in lessons, interventions and enrichment activities
  • Building positive and professional relationships with pupils, families and colleagues

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH or additional learning needs is highly desirable
  • A calm, patient and compassionate approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and families
  • A sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through Connex Education
  • The Right to Work in the UK

Due to the nature of these roles, preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND or additional needs within education, care, residential support, youth work or similar settings.

Applicants must also have the Right to Work in the UK and successfully complete all required safer recruitment and safeguarding checks.
